Home Leagues

  1. Each league must designate one or more contact persons for the playthrough league. They will be listed on the Leagues Page.
  2. Leagues must provide each team with player and coaches passes, along with the official team's roster (goldenrod) and medical release forms. All passes must be laminated.
  3. Home leagues must schedule fields for their home games on the day the games have been scheduled. Only if there are absolutely no other options can a game be moved by one day (from Saturday to Sunday). If this is doen BOTH teams need to be contacted before the change is made, and they both need to agree! It is not enough to just change the date on the website and assume that the teams figure this out by themselves. All games shall be scheduled with three credential referees by the home league. Home leagues are responsible to pay the referees.
  4. The only legitimate excuse for postponing a regularly scheduled game is due to excessive rain. In the recreational divisions, each team is allowed to reschedule one game due to their participation in a tournament, a second game if they participate in the District 2 Cup, and a third game if they participate in the Founders Cup. Otherwise, teams that are playing through the recreational division, the making up of a game due to a team participating in additional tournaments will only occur if the opposing team agrees to play at a different time. If the opposing team does not agree to reschedule the game, than the team participating in additional tournaments will forfeit that game. If both teams are participating in a tournament and/or the other team agrees to postpone the game, then it is the home team's responsibility to see that the game be rescheduled within two weeks of its originally scheduled time.
  5. Rain policy: A visiting team may not cancel a game without consulting the home team, which has the sole authority to postpone the game because of field conditions. A rainy morning may quickly give way to a sunny / dry late morning or afternoon. The visiting team may be subject to forfeit if it fails to show for the scheduled game without prior notification of the cancellation by the home team.
  6. All postponed games that cannot be rescheduled within two weeks of the originally scheduled date should be reported to the appropriate Division Scheduling Coordinator. Any games that are scheduled to be played during the last two weeks of the season that are postponed shall be reported to the WVYSL Division Scheduling Coordinator immediately. The Division Scheduling Coordinator will make every effort to set a date, time, and location of the game that is mutually acceptable, or with majority approval of the scheduling committee, declare the game a forfeit, or declare the game not played.

The Teams

  1. Leagues can register teams through the website until 10 days before the first game (usually the first weekend after labour day). There are no fees to register a team.
  2. Each team must have at least 13 players and one coach, preferably also an assistant coach.
  3. Each player playing through the District 2 Play-Through Program must play at least half of the game at which he/she attends, unless a coach is exercising disciplinary action. Disciplinary action may be exercised when a player is disruptive at practices and/or at games, or missing practices without coach's approval. Tardiness is to be handled between the coach and the parents.
  4. All coaches and players must have valid player passes stamped by the district registrar.

Guest Players

Guest players are allowed for a game provided that:
  • all guest players have a valid CYSA player pass for the same year, play in a rec team, and play in the same age group or a younger group than their guest team.
  • there are no more than 4 players on the bench during the game (3 players fo 8v8 games)
  • Guest players are brought in to allow other players to take a break, the actual team players must take precedence and no guest player should be playing until all regular player had a chance to play.

The Games

  1. The coach of the home team will contact the visiting coach at least 72 hours prior to game time to notify them of the game and field location, and provide directions to the field. These contacts should occur for all games within one week for the schedules being issued. (Wednesday noon is acceptable for meeting the 72 hours notification rule.)
  2. To ensure that all recreational players will enjoy their game, a five-goal differential rule will be enforced in the recreational play-through: that is, scores of 0-5, 8-3, 1-6 are acceptable. Scores such as 0-6, 9-3, 1-7 are considered to violate the five-goal differential rule.
  3. Scores are not kept and are not recorded. In the case of a blow-out (see previous rule) please send an email to the person responsible for the D2Rec Play-through league: Sandra Todd, toddsandra@yahoo.com
  4. In case of two teams having like colored uniforms, the home team is required to change into another jersey.
  5. Both teams and their supporters will be on opposite sides of the field unless the home league enforces a different rule.
  6. Coaching from the sidelines will be permitted only from the team's side of the field by authorized coaches only. Spectators are not allowed to coach. Coaches must stay within ten yards of the half line.
  7. If the away coach cancels a game less than 72h before the game it is up to the home league to decide if they can reschedule the game, and if the away coach has to pay for the referees. If the home coach cancels the home league must rechedule the game.
  8. If the assigned referee(s) do not show up for the game, an individual or individuals agreed to by both coaches shall referee the game and the game will be official. If the coaches cannot agree, the game will be rescheduled within two weeks. Every attempt should be made to play the game on the scheduled date. If a league, club, or coach knows ahead of the scheduled date of a game that they cannot provide referees for the home game, an effort should be made to reschedule the game for the same date at the visitor's field or for the visitor's team to bring one or more referees to the original home field.
  9. Coaches, players, and spectators are expected to conduct themselves properly at all times, and to treat all referees with respect. Coaches are responsible for the conduct of his/her team's spectators. Any incidents of abuse of referees will be reviewed by the home league. Consequences could be as harsh as cancellation of the remainder of the season for everyone involved.
  10. The playing field and its surroundings are to be policed after each game to be sure there is no trash, equipment, or belongings left behind by a team or its supporters. NO SMOKING IS ALLOWED ON THE SOCCER FIELD OR IN SPECTATOR AREAS. Individuals that wish to smoke must first leave the premises.
  11. Forfeits should be reported to the appropriate Division Scheduling Coordinator within 72 hours of the scheduled game date. The Scheduling Committee, consisting of the Division Scheduling Coordinators and the League Scheduler, shall make the determination whether a game is actually forfeited.

Protests and Complaints

  1. Games cannot be protested. Complains are to be sent to the play-through leaue scheduler. Repeated complaints from multiple sources may result in the rescheduling of all of the remaining games for the offending league, club, or team as away games (referees still paid by the original home league).
  2. Any complaints about incompetent or unfair referees should be reported to the rec league scheduler and the referee director of the home team. Away teams should also notify the referee director of their league. Repeated complaints from multiple sources may result in the rescheduling of all of the remaining games for the offending league, club, or team as away games (referees still paid by the original home league).
  3. Referees must fill out the standard red card form for the district and send it to the rec league scheduler within 1 business day.
